21. What Goes Up Must Come Down

The British Government is desperate to offload the national debt and with that in mind the South Sea Company bribes enough people to make sure they get to take it on.  Their plan?  An pyramid scheme to make money from an ever rising share price but someone forgets to mention that bubbles always burst.  The parallels with todays financial crisis are too many to mention.

  3. Tony,

I'm skint. LOVE the BTHP. Best history podcast and highlight I would love to hear more often. But, quality worth the wait.

    Best regards,

  5. Tony - thoroughly enjoyed the cast, you have equipped me with tools to tear apart my father in law in our next political argument.

Add an amazon link so I can contribute a few shekels.

  7. What story telling - just superb. I think you should make this one into a TV documentary for BBC.

  8. Enjoyed this lots. However, there is one problem: no episode 22.... What is going on? You can't tease a guy like this...

  9. Nothing is better than discovering a new podcast series and I have just run through the first 10 here. I am a veteran listener of all the British History Podcasts, all 170 of Mike Duncan's Rome, and The Ancient World and Binge Thinkling is the best of all. Your use of music, sound effects and audio quotations is unrivaled. As a yank I love the English colloquialisms thrown in even if I have to figure out what they mean through context.

  10. I am just through the first 4 podcasts and looking forward to the Battle of Britain. Sadly I see nothing past episode 21. Tony, if you are still out there, please reconsider your overlong hiatus!

  11. Hello Tony. I recently discovered your podcast and I really enjoyed it (and I have listened to 10 different history podcasts at least). Like the posters above, I would welcome anything new. However, I can't imagine how much work this is and I hope all is well.
